Do you remember the night before your first day of high school; or maybe the night before your first day of a new job? You are excited, slightly nervous and if you are anything like me – playing out in your mind how the day will go. Who will you meet? What will you do? What is this new experience going to be like? In light of these questions and the possibility that others too may be asking these same things as their big start day approaches, I thought it would be fun to follow one of our classes as they move through our Masters Program from the SetFocus Career Development perspective. The class I chose is a full time .NET Masters Program and they will start next Monday.

The Week before Class

Here is what Students are receiving this week:

  • Polycom units for GRID access and first books
  • Phone calls from their Career Development Representative to introduce and welcome them as well as address any questions
  • An email from their Career Development Representative containing 2 important documents; a Career Development Agreement that discusses what we expect from our Students and in turn what they can expect from us and a New Student Survey that allows the Career Development and Placement team to gain a better understanding of where each individual is looking to take their newly acquired skills
  • An invitation to attend Orientation the Friday before class start; this orientation is provided by the Dean of Students and is an introduction to the GRID and classroom tools and resources
  • Virtual Machine access details arrive via email the Friday before class starts

As you can see the pre-week is busy with equipment setup and introductions. The more the student can do this week to ensure their home space is setup and conducive to the many learning hours they are about to embark upon the better for them. We, your Career Development team also want to meet and connect as we are about to step into a new partnership together!

Next week – the first week of class!

Please feel free to ask questions or comment on our experiences as we go along.  I would love to hear from you!
